How Closed-Cell Spray Foam Helps Control Air and Moisture
Closed-cell spray foam forms a rigid, compact structure after application. It generally provides higher thermal resistance per inch than open-cell foam and can act as an effective air-control layer when installed continuously at the required thickness. These properties make it useful to evaluate in assemblies where space is limited or air movement must be controlled.
Air control and moisture transport
Moving air can carry substantial moisture through gaps in a building enclosure. By reducing uncontrolled airflow, closed-cell foam can help limit this transport. It is also less vapor permeable than open-cell foam. That does not make a building waterproof, and it does not eliminate the need to manage rain, groundwater, flashing, drainage, and indoor humidity.Suitable applications depend on design
Possible uses include selected exterior walls, foundations, rim joists, metal-building surfaces, and roof or commercial assemblies. The substrate must be appropriate, clean, and sufficiently dry. Existing water intrusion should be corrected first because applying foam over a problem can make future inspection and repair more difficult.Thickness and continuity matter

Evaluate closed-cell foam for your project
Inland Northwest Spray Foam provides closed-cell and other insulation services for Spokane-area properties. The team can review the intended application and discuss how the material fits the complete assembly. Visit inlandnorthwestsprayfoam.com or call (509) 471-0006 to request an assessment.◈
